What makes us want to tell everyone about a product or service, even when we don’t get anything out of it?

My two cents: it’s all about value, which builds trust.

The Power of Real Value

For example, this YouTube channel solved a problem for me: I’m not a fan of most of the content out there. But The Why Files solved that by creating engaging stories about topics that are both interesting and well-researched. Plus, they present these stories in a funny, unbiased way.

The fact that someone goes through so much effort to research a topic, craft a detailed story with facts, videos, and proof, and then debunk it (totally for free) made me think: what a time to be alive.

The Bigger Picture

This made me realize something bigger: our society is drowning in content, but so little of it is actually useful or fun (and so rarely both). Gone are the days when we chose what to engage with. Now, algorithms decide what we see, tracking our reactions and often showing us just one side of the story.

And that’s not just annoying—it’s scary. It’s no wonder we’ve ended up in a society where we don’t trust anyone. Someone calls us, and we hesitate to pick up. Someone sends a friend request on Facebook, and we wonder what they’re trying to sell us.

Earning and Keeping Trust

If you’re running a business and getting referrals without an affiliate code—congratulations! You’ve earned people’s trust. Now, it’s all about keeping it. Trust is built by consistently delivering value, being honest, and showing reliability in every interaction.

When you focus on these principles, your business becomes the one people want to tell their friends about—just like The Why Files made me want to share.
